cold brewed green tea




makes 1 litre (4-5 cups)

3 green tea teabags (I use Red Sun brand)
1 litre (4-5 cups) cold or room temperature water

  • remove paper tags from teabags
  • put teabags into glass jug or container
  • pour in water and put on lid
  • refrigerate for 8 - 24 hours before drinking
  • when ready to serve, remove teabags

notes
  • cold brewed green tea steeped for 12 hours has a high level of polyphenols equal to or greater than tea steeped in hot water for 5 minutes
  • steeping tea for at least 12 hours has better extraction abilities than hot water brewing
  • cold-brewed tea has about half the caffeine content of hot tea
